horse racing tips from Ed Quigley

Top tipster and broadcaster Ed Quigley, aka 'Longshot Ted' has been on fire with his selections this week and serves up his best bets for what should be a magic weekend of action…

Ted's picks for Saturday, September 14, 2024:

Find the following picks for the races on Saturday, September 14. Play on the races with our best expert-rated horse racing betting sites:

  • Doncaster 3.00 - Lake Forest - bet with BetMGM
  • Leopardstown 3.25 - Auguste Rodin - each way bet with talkSPORT BET
  • Doncaster 3.40 - Sunway - each way bet with VBET

Doncaster 3.00 - Lake Forest

William Haggas has had another productive season, and this 7f Group 2 can go the way of LAKE FOREST - to me it looks as though he has been absolutely crying out for having a crack at this trip. The 3-year-old should really benefit from 🥀the extra distance, and although he has a bit to find on ratings, he is open to any amount of improvement in this assignment.

He has won two of his seven races to date, but has raced exclusively over 6f - and now looks like the time for the greater test of stamina. He has run very similar races to finish runner-up on both starts this season, in which he has shaped as though 6f is too sharp for him nowadays, as he looked well beaten before powerin☂g home past riva♓ls in the closing stages to grab the silver medal.

This flat track on drying ground looks ideal, where 7f a🐼nd his weight-for-age allowance are all big ticks in the right boxes and I can see this thoroughly unexposed sort getting involved at the business end of proceedings with Cieran Fallon in the saddle.

Leopardstown 3.25 - Auguste Rodin

This looks an absolute belter, where I am happy to take on the red-hot favourite Economics, with last year's winner AUGUSTE RODIN. Economics has done little wrong so far this term, but I am not sure the overall balance of his form entitles him to be as short as he is in💛 the betting.

Auguste Rodin is a real enigmatic character, but when on song he i𓃲s a high-level performer as we saw when he won the English and Irish Derby and landing this race 12 months ago, taking his tally to two wins f❀rom two visits to Leopardstown.

A victory at Royal Ascot in June demonstrated that he still can operate at the highest level, but he then throws in a stinker as we saw ꦅover in Meydan and in the last two renewals of the King George at Ascot.

However, this is his backyard, and he has shown in the past that he can bounce back from abysmal runs to get the job done. The tried and tested Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien combination should be in full throttle here and can add more Group 1 glory to the CV.

Doncaster 3.40 - Sunway

SUNWAY can cause a minor upset by landing the St Leger for the David Menusier and Christophe Soumillon combination. A Gr🦩oup 1 winner as a 2-year-old, the colt has been winless this year - but has run some belters in defeat, including at the highest level.

What has looked apparent though is that Sunway is absolutely crying out for a proper test of stamina, and this step up to the St Leger distance of an extended 1m6f can see more improvement. So there will be n hiding place here, and I can see this grueling t🍬est really bringing out the best in Sunway.

In the Irish Derby and in the King George, Sunway ran a very similar race by looking outpaced foꦛr his stamina kicked in during the hard yards of🌳 those 1m4f assignments, and that Group 1 form puts him right in the shake-up for this encounter.

The big galloping straight can r🧔eally suit him here on Town Moor and I am finding it hard to boot him out of the frame - I think he can really serve it up to the protagonists here.

Ted's picks for Sunday, September 15, 2024

  • Curragh 3.00 - Bedtime Story - bet with VBET
  • Doncaster 4.15 - Baradar e/w - bet with BetMGM

Curragh 3.00 - Bedtime Story

BEDTIME STORY is filly who has put in some stirring performances so far this campaign, and the 2-year-old will look to maintain her unbeaten tag he💎re as she forays into Group 1 company 💦for the first time in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

The daughter of Frankel is the perfect four from four so far, and has risen through the ranks winning in a Maiden, right through to Group 2 level. The biggest 'wow' moment was when winning the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot where she absolutely pulverised her rivals in what was visually, the performance of the week.

Ryan Moore travelled powerfully on that occasion and when he asked his mount to quicken, she showed relentless gears to run out a near 10-length winner. S🐲he will have more on her plate here in what is her toughest test to date but she can pass with flying col💃ours and get herself set up for what should be a sparkling 3-year-old career.

Doncaster 4.15 - Baradar

The wheels, alloys and even the engine look to have all fallen off BARADAR in recent times, but the 6-year-old has an outstanding record on Town Moor, and won this race 12 months ago. Recent efforts have left a lot to be desired, but as a consequence George Boughey's representative is now looking dangerously well treated off a BHA rating of 96.

Baradar got the job done last year off a rating of 100, so clearly is being given every opportunity by the accessor as he returns to the scene of his last success. His five starts at Doncaster have yielded 2 wins and 2 placed efforts, and the only time he didn't trouble the judge was when not beaten far in Listed company.

Providing the ground isn't riding too quick he could roll back the years here with the excellent Billy Loughnane taking the ride.
